You can replace the default Smallworld Labs Event Portal URL with a custom subdomain that your organization owns (for example, event.yourorganization.com). In addition, you can configure your root domain (also known as the apex domain, such as yourevent.com, along with the www version) to redirect visitors to your Event Portal for the appropriate show year. This allows you to maintain consistent, branded links while easily updating where those links point from year to year.
Editing your subdomain:
- Navigate to the Admin side of your Event Portal > Site Administration > System
- Select Domain Name
- Enter the subdomain url
eventname.prod.pcomm.net)
.
Redirecting your apex domain:
To maintain flexibility from one show year to the next, we recommend managing your root (apex) and www domain redirects on your own DNS or hosting provider. This allows you to control exactly when your links move from one event year to the next (for example, from 2027 to 2028), without requiring changes inside the Event Portal.
- Determine where redirects will be managed
- Work with your DNS or web hosting provider to determine how redirects are handled. Most providers offer one of the following options:
A built-in redirect feature that supports both the root (apex) domain and the
wwwversion, orA lightweight redirect service that lets you easily change the destination URL when needed
Either option is acceptable as long as both the root and
wwwdomains are covered.
- Work with your DNS or web hosting provider to determine how redirects are handled. Most providers offer one of the following options:
Set up the initial redirect
Configure your root and
wwwdomains to redirect to your Event Portal subdomain for the current show year.
Example:
yourorganization.comwww.yourorganization.com
Redirects to:
https://event.yourorganization.com
Update the redirect for the next show year
At the appropriate point in your show cycle (such as after the event concludes or when sales open for the next year), update the redirect target.
