Welcome to the first training article for BI & Reporting. In this article, we will be learning about the folder tree, different areas, and running reports. Enjoy!
We’ll begin with our main menu, located on the top-left side of the screen. From here we can browse our report tree, and make modifications to our folder structure if we’d like (expand selection and right click).
We’ll also see some folders in the report tree that have a lock icon to denote they are read only and cannot be modified (shown below). You will only be able to run these report to view the data quickly and efficiently.
To run a report, simply click on the report and select the 'run' button. You will notice the locked report renders in the area to the right of the report tree. You will notice that you do not have the ability to change, filter, group, format, etc.
But lets say that you want to take that locked report to duplicate/modify and save for yourself. Before doing so, you must first identify what folder you want this new report to be contained in. You should already have a folder specific to you called "My Configured Reports", this would be a good place to save your new report. You will only be able to save duplicated/modified reports in "My Configured Reports" or folders that you create. But, if you want to create a new folder specific to you, click on the '+ Add Folder' button at the top of the folder tree and then give it a name. Hint - You are allowed to create folders within folders for further organization.
This will now allow you to duplicate the report and modify as needed. Just select the desired report, click on the hamburger menu and select 'Duplicate'. You can now rename the report, save it to a folder that was previously created and then run it to view the data.
